Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Hotel restaurants are often hit or miss. Sometimes you can find a hidden gem, sometimes you'll wish you walked a block or two and found something else. Piastra was okay, but the ambiance was nicer than the food, if that makes sense. The setting is classy and quiet, the servers attentive and unobtrusive. The menu is varied, offering anything from sandwiches to pizza to full "American-style" entrees. The only vegetarian items on the diner menu were pizza, appetizers, or salad. I ordered the house salad, which was mixed greens, roasted tomatoes and croutons. It was good, although I should have asked for the dressing on the side because it was a little too much. The Margherita pizza was not great. It had too much cheese and was sprinkled with parsley instead of basil (v. disappointing!). The tomato that topped the pizza was also in wedges instead of slices, giving it a three-dimensional presentation, but also made it pretty impossible to pick up a slice to eat. Oh wait, I forgot - when I'm in places with linen tablecloths I'm probably supposed to use a fork and knife. BOTTOM LINE: If you're getting into the hotel late and want a quick bite, this will do. If you have more time on your hands you'll probably be better off exploring the options within a few blocks.

Last night had dinner at Piastra which is located in the City Center Marriott. We had a wonderful server (Nada) and an amazing meal. We started with their house salad, then we had the Filet Duo, and ended with the chocolate crepes. We will definitely return and repeat that dinner! The dinner menu has mostly Italian cuisine and we look forward to returning to try some of those selections. Seeing what others around us selected, I look forward to trying their lasagna. With all the meals we saw, the presentation, the serving size, and the meals themselves looked great! We also had breakfast this morning. We order the American breakfast, eggs benedict, and pancakes (three of us for breakfast). Again, we had a wonderful server (Marco) and all our breakfast choices were superb. Piastra is a hotel restaurant you don't want to miss! I know we will visit again even when not staying at the Marriott.

Blah. Staying at the hotel and too tired to go out so I opted to just go downstairs. The setting it's nice and in the winter you can watch ice skaters out the big Windows and while the service was good- friendly, attentive, etc... the food was a bore. There is bread that comes out first, but it was an ordinary roll and in this instance it was stale. I ordered the Fettuccini Bolognese, it was not a true Bolognese. It was a heavy meat sauce that didn't have much flavor and the pasta was WAAAAY overcooked to the point of mushville. There might be other dishes worth trying on the menu but this one can definitely be skipped.

Went in while intermission at a Gallivan concert, I was in need of a drink so I went in the right side which is the bar/lounge. Left side is the dining room, more formal. Place looked really nice and people seemed to be loving the food. I sat at the bar and the bartender was really nice, not stuffy like other hotels. I think he even gave us a locals deal but the drinks were nice and made well. I will be back every time i am in the area.

I've eaten breakfast in here every time I've visited Salt Lake City. They have a great all american buffet and it rarely disappoints.

I have had buffet breakfasts at various Marriott resorts and hotels in several countries and have found the food to be very good. I have also had the buffet at this restaurant twice before and was impressed. But, today's experience was a dissapointment. My main complaint was that the "hot" buffet items were either tepid or cool. Also, the lox and cold cut plate was pushed into a back corner as if the staff was trying to hide the meat items. It required a contorted arm twist to get the items off the platter and onto my plate. The bagels were not fresh and the French toast was cold and dried out. The "hot" syrup was not. Finally, the staff was friendly but did not have a professional demeanor. Our server tried to pull our plates away before we were done eating and put down our bill at the same time. Next time, I'll try the "big" Marriott or the Little America in Salt Lake City when I want a breakfast buffet.

This meal was absolutely excellent. We ate here on a cross-country drive, during which most of the dinners were hotel food, and this was the only meal that tasted like it came from an actual, top-notch restaurant. The chef's special, for example, actually seemed like something a real chef had taken the time to dream up, plan, and realize. Dessert was also fabulous. Even though we only selected ice cream, it came with delicious house-made whipped cream that was a major highlight. The service here was also fantastic -- if you get a waiter named Donovan, tell him we say hi! All in all, I'm surprised there aren't a ton of positive reviews for this place online. We ate at hotels across the country for ten nights in a row, and this was far and away the best.

I've been staying at the Marriott for the past couple of days and am more than happy to order food in, and I've had a couple of good experiences in the restaurant. In restaurant: They serve three kinds of complimentary bread with olive oil and herbed salt. Pizza: yummy and good, but the pepperoni is greasy let me tell you. Caesar salad: competent. Chocolate crepes: oh my freakin' yum, these were good. With vanilla custard inside and fresh rasberries, I couldn't get enough. Room service: Morning fruit plate: holy shizz this is fancy- and with generous portions. I loved the fresh berries, two kinds of melon, banana, and fresh yogurt- a refreshing way to start off the day. Cobb salad: very tasty meats laid upon a fresh bed of mixed greens. Apple strudel: spiced apples packed tightly together in filo dough. this was presented nicely but i wasn't that into the spice. I really appreciated having good food in the hotel, and the excellent service they give in the restaurant. They are very welcoming and polite.
